Great Summary of Internal Israeli Politics Related to Their Vulnerability
Rabbi Daniel Lapin on Wall Builders Radio with Rick Green (26 min)
I found out some things I did not know before about internal Israeli politics related to their vulnerability to terrorism. It mirrors to some extent American politics.
One side wants bureaucracy to define every aspect of culture and society, insulated from popular vote. The other side wants the government to be accountable in elections.
For instance, I did not know that the Israeli Supreme Court (their version of that) appoints its own successors ! What !?
What could possibly go wrong ?
I hate our Senate confirmation clown shows of Supreme Court justices here in America, but I would hate the self-perpetuating bureaucratic insulation of the Israeli Supreme Court even more. Why ? It threatens the purpose of Separation of Powers : Protecting Individual Liberty.
What is to prevent the Court from assuming executive and legislative powers within itself ?
Madison said in Federalist 47, recall, that the definition of tyranny is the accumulation of all powers, executive, judicial, and legislative, in the same hands, whether one, few, or many, whether elected or not.
It’s the proper system of Separation of Powers that is under attack in America, and was not properly designed in the first place in Israel (apparently).
I highly recommend the above 25 minutes or so.
