Professor, Are You For Traditional Marriage ?
A Constitutional Law Classroom, California State University
Professor, so you’re for traditional marriage?
[The professor smirked]. Pretend I am an alien. Not from Canada, you racist , but from another galaxy. I have downloaded all English words and understand them perfectly. Except this word, “marriage”. What can you tell me about the essence of the term marriage that is *not* from the tradition? [The professor looked at his watch]. You have 30 seconds, earthling . Go.
[Shifting, scratching of noses, fiddling of hair, eyes up and to the left, then to the right , and then again , and then, after a few moments, centering on the professor—an innocent look, as if looking at a flower for the first time]. Uh.
After a while, the professor said, looking straight at her, I gave you two full minutes. Whatcha got for me?
And after a long full moment of everyone looking at the professor for a long time, the professor said, interesting. Very interesting .
