St. Matthew the Accountant
A New Approach to Matthew's Gospel by a Harvard Ancient Philosophy Ph.D.
He’s Catholic, but I don’t hold that against him.
Dr. Michael Pakaluk of Catholic University in Washington, D.C., argues for Matthew’s authorship of the first canonical Gospel by hypothesizing that Matthew’s unique voice, skills, and talents as a banker shine through obviously in the vocabulary and emphases, and then tests the hypothesis. His conclusion is that God may have used Matthew for who he was, skills and talents and all, to write the Gospel we have, one that has a lot of peculiar sayings otherwise more obscure than need be.
