Ultra Short Version
Ultra short version:
[A group presented on defending programs of preferential treatment. Females have been oppressed by white males yada yada yada ].
Q&A session: what counts as a female? the professor asked.
(1st oh s—t moment)
Anyone who identifies as female, a student said. [A few others nodded].
So, just to be clear, they are getting their asses kicked for centuries by white males, the professor said.
Yeah.
And the whole time, they could have just said they were men , and then the ass kicking would stop? the professor continued.
Well ... [nervous giggle] ... they
So they brought it on themselves ? Is that what you’re saying? the professor asked.
No , that’s how they identify , the students said.
But they could just as easily be men the next year, you’re saying? Right ? the professor queried.
Well ....
I mean , it’s never been easier to become a man as ... well ... if what you’re saying is true, it was always possible to just become a man, the professor clarified.
White males ... but then ... it ...
How did women get the right to vote ? the professor asked, after a moment of silence.
They had to fight for it.
Okay .
They had to fight for it, the students insisted.
They, who identified with people who couldn’t vote, had to fight for it, the professor stated.
Yeah [weakly]. [Oh s—t].
Was it harder to fight to vote or harder to stay a woman instead of just becoming a man, the professor asked.
No it’s all about gender equality which white males denied them.
So, men only had the right to vote ? the professor said, smiling .
Yes!
And it was voted on that women now also can vote, and that passed ? the professor smiled bigger.
Yes ... I think ... yes [weakly].
And that is of course entirely to the credit, not of the people voting—it’s pretty clear they can do nothing right in your eyes—but it’s entirely to the credit of the beneficiaries of their discretionary benevolence, the professor said, not smiling anymore.
I’m sorry could you repeat what you said I didn’t understand , the student said.
Sure . White males gave women the right to vote , the professor repeated.
No.
Yes.
Well, yes, but ... [nervous laughter] ...
Are you thankful for your right to vote this week? the professor asked.
No .
No?
Yes. Well, yes.
Then thank white men. The record is crystal clear. That’s what made it happen .
You want me to thank you? she asked.
Well I am a black lesbian Hispanic Japanese non Hispanic (I haven’t hit Sephora recently —I know that’s an essential component —, been too busy), but ..., the professor said.
So you’re trans ?
No , I AM mother-trucker! [crossed eyes, crooked hat]
[Class loses it.]
